Making Lists.

Ok so I'm going to be making lists of about 4-5 films for each genre of film for the whole cohesive trailer idea.

The genres stand at:

Action/Adventure
Thriller
Comedy

ill edit the films for each genre when I have them

I will be using the Internet Movie Database site for this research: http://www.imdb.com

Change of Direction

After our midweek meeting with Jen it got me thinking I might have been going about the project the wrong way rather looking at what I wanted to make without really having a definite reason why in mind.

So back to the drawing board, I do definitely want to stay with films. I was also thinking about what Jen & Tom said and it got me thinking about how each genre has a lot of things that happen in every film of that Genre, clichés if you will. Jen mentioned seeing how a film from a few years ago and present day in the same genre differ, also maybe making a cohesive trailer for a certain genre using clips from different films hence proving that many of the films recently are pretty much the same at the core, with only different characters and locations to differentiate them.

Midnight Epiphany

Before I forget I had an idea as I was laying awake yesterday which I thought I might have forgot by today.

It was concerning the music video by TV adverts, maybe a nice idea to change it slightly would be to write a piece of writing about adverts and their limitations, (maybe rhyming I'm not sure) which would be read over the video like in the Honda Adverts (You know which ones I mean :D ).

So for example it would be like:

'How about letterboxing' or 'Placing the narator in the middle of a desert'

with which I could take an advert and then letterbox followed by keying out the background and simulating putting the advert narator in a desert, or something like that

It's all just Ideas right now, ok back to cutting up my video!

Problems & Workarounds

Ok so I've started going about making this Miami Vice/Prison Break Hybrid Trailer

Having downloaded the original trailer I have noted the kind of things I would need to cut to make the trailer have a similar feel I have gone about skimming and cutting the episodes which turns out was more troublesome than I thought as DivX encoded movies wont open in video editing programs so I am having to cut the scenes out of V-dub and then encode them to more manageable file sizes which is taking longer than expected but should be worth it

This will apply to making a movie in 60 seconds also as all films are encoded with DivX

New ideas + Problems

So it seems getting hold of adverts is gonna be tricky so I've ordered a Video Capture Device which will help me record TV on my Laptop and give me the necessary clips I need to work that mini project.

I have started cutting out Prison Break clips to make a Miami Vice trailer with, I think it could be pretty cool to try and make a Vice Trailer using clips from a different show, we'll see how it pans out.

Ideas for video experiments

Other than my first basic Idea of making some kind of music video with TV Adverts, I'll be needing to think of other possible videos I could remix/ turn on their heads..

  • Using sound from a movie trailer along with graphics from say a video game
  • Iman showed me an alternate 'happy' trailer for 'Shining', maybe doing something similar with a film such as Scarface could work well
  • Mixing up clips from 2 popular series' such as Heroes & Prison Break to make them look like they're on the same show.
  • Condensing a movie into 60 seconds of video, having done a previous project like this last year made me realise it can be challenging and enjoyable
  • Maybe using completely contrasting music and video to create an strong contrasting piece - classical music with violent scenes from a movie?

More as I think of them..
